Code of Ethics of responsible dog ownership including keeping, welfare, breeding, selling and disposing of dogs by members of the Canine Control Council of Queensland.

Section One - Compliance with the Code of Ethics
1.
Each member, upon signing an Application for Membership or Renewal of Membership of the Queensland American Staffordshire Terrier Association, and being duly elected to general membership of the Queensland American Staffordshire Terrier Association shall, in addition to agreeing to be bound by the Constitution, Rules and Regulations of the CCC(Q) be also bound by the CCC(Q)'s Code of Ethics relating to responsible dog ownership, including the keeping, welfare, breeding, selling and disposing of dogs by members to the effect of the terms and conditions set under Section 2 hereof.


Section Two - Code of Ethics and Undertaking

2. In consideration of the Queensland American Staffordshire Terrier Association electing me to its general membership and approval of a renewal from time to time, I pledge to the Queensland American Staffordshire Terrier Association that:

a. I shall ensure that at all times all dogs under my control are properly contained within a fenced area or suitable enclosure, properly housed, fed, watered, exercised and receive proper veterinary attention, if and where required.
b. I shall not allow any dogs under my care to roam at large and when away from home ensure they are kept fully leashed, or under effective control, at all times.
c. I shall breed only for the purpose of improving the standard of the breed, and not specifically for the pet market or any other commercial purpose, yet I retain the right of free trade to directly advertise and sell dogs not retained by me for line maintenance purposes and I undertake to register all progeny, and undertake to transfer all progeny, when leaving my care, in accordance with the rules.
d. i. I shall not breed from any bitch kept or owned by me causing it to whelp before it has reached the age for my particular breed as specified by the ANKC Regulations part 6.8.3 and any subsequent amendments (as per Appendix to these Rules) or in the absence of such specification, the age of twelve months.
    ii.I shall not breed from any bitch kept or owned by me causing it to 

       whelp more then twice in eighteen months.
   iii.I shall not breed from any bitch kept or owned by me causing it to

       whelp more then (4) four times without prior veterinary

       certification of fitness for further breeding.This certification must

       be forwarded to the CCC(Q).
   iv.I shall not breed from any male dog under (9) nine months of age.
e. I shall adhere to all the current ANKC Regulations Part 6.8.4-9 and any subsequent amendments (as per Appendix to these Rules) if specified for my particular breed. Breeders shall record such scores for breeds as required by the ANKC regulations.
f. I shall not permit any of my purebred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed, to a crossbred or to an unregistered dog of the same breed.
g.  i.I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under

       eight weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination to be given at

       six weeks of age and the necessary fourteen days to take effect, I

       shall provide a current vaccination certificate with any dog leaving

       my care.
    ii.I shall not export any puppy under (12) twelve weeks of age. When

       exporting I accept that it is my responsibility to have the dog

      microchipped and obtain an export certification before the dog

      leaves Australia.
h. I shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from me clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal, as defined in a and b above.
i. I shall provide to all purchasers of dogs sold or placed by me, written details of all dietary and immunisation requirements and/or an appropriate publication relating such requirements and responsible dog ownership as well as their responsibility to abide by Local Government by-laws.
j. I undertake that if I should dispose of any dog/ dogs by sale or commission to any reseller of dogs in Australia or overseas, those dogs will be registered on the Limited Register and identified by microchip before sale.
k. I shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person regarding the performance of this dog.
l. I shall acknowledge and abide by the provisions of the Queensland Animal Care and Protection Act 2001.
m. I accept that should any evidence be produced that my dogs have any contagious disease, I shall not be able to show or dispose of any dogs that ware within my kennel, for a period of (3) three months. In such circumstances, I will comply with the requirement that a veterinary clearance must be forwarded to the CCC(Q) at the expiration of such period.
n. I accept the following:
   i. If I am proven guilty by law of any charge relating to my dog, my

      membership may be suspended.
  ii. I shall not directly or indirectly give a dog as a prize or donation in

      any contest or raffle of any kind.


Section Three
3. Any member failing to observe any provision of the Code of Ethics may be dealt with under the Rules of the CCC(Q).
4. Neither the CCC(Q), its officials nor any of its employees may make decisions whatsoever in any litigation involving members and the purchase of any dog.
5. I undertake to comply with the Regulations and By-Laws relating to the Keeping of dogs promulgated by my local authority. I accept it is my responsibility to make sure that I keep abreast of any changes to by-laws.
